I have had the privilege to read the book which will be at the centre of the next Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study, Me, Myself and Lies by Jennifer Rothschild. Hope, practical application and wisdom are beautifully woven together with humour, candour and courage into one great book! Jennifer shares some of her darkest moment and biggest challenges so we can learn the impact of our thought closet and the changes we need to make and I am so looking forward to spending time with the P31 OBS gals digging deeper into this great content and the biblical truths it highlights! I highly recommend the book and joining the P31 OBS community!
Favourite quotes include:
“We’re not just taking a mucky piece of clothing and hanging it in a closet; we’re taking dirty, ill-fitting words and storing them in the sanctity of our minds!”
“Simply put, our assumptions are the root, and our thoughts are the fruit. The root of wrong thinking is always a faulty assumption. The root of all right thinking is always an assumption based on truth.”
“When we wipe away the dirt from our lives by confession to God each day, we become useful, pleasant and effective vessels. With David, then, we must tell our souls to awake.”“Tell your soul to hope in God (Psalm 42:11) and you will be infused with strength beyond your circumstance.”
“You can still and quiet your soul by speaking shalom to yourself. It’s like inviting wellness to your soul – to your thought closet.”
“The words you speak to your soul can build either bridges or walls.”
“Listing the goodness of God on your behalf will prompt you to rest. God is good, we can rest.”

From the book’s back cover:
What Should You Say When You Talk to Yourself?
Have you ever noticed the things you say to yourself—and believe?
- I could never do that.
- They don’t like me.
- I am such an idiot!
You wouldn’t talk that way to anyone else, yet phrases like these constantly flow through your mind, leaving you insecure and defeated. Jennifer Rothschild was there, as well, until she learned how to replace the lies with truth. With wisdom and authenticity, Jennifer will help you…
- silence the negative voices in your mind as you learn to speak kindly to your soul
- grow in confidence by replacing the lies that shackle you with the truth that sets you free
- overcome a lifetime of damaging self-talk by practicing godly and biblical soul-talk
Plus, you’ll hear from Lysa TerKeurst, Laura Story, Lisa Whelchel, Stormie Omartian, and other popular authors and speakers as they share what they say when they talk to themselves.
